2011: Bugs!

Bugs! required teams to build robots to retrieve “genetically modified bugs”-heavy bean bags, styrofoam balls suspended high above the field, and small moving robots-and place them into containment areas behind fields of obstacles. Bonus points were awarded for retrieving all types of bugs. Retrieving each bug presented a unique challenge, challenging teams to build versatile robots with the available parts. Winning robots had long but stable and responsive arms with versatile claws capable of retrieving all types of bugs. In addition, carrying the heavy bean bags was particularly challenging, forcing the winning teams to use counterweights on their robots to prevent them from flipping over.
