Gatekeeper required teams to collect different electrical components needed to build a complete CPU. Robots were stationary but were moved around the field using a human operated platform. Teams had to build up inventories of individual components in order to manufacture larger components, and ultimately build a CPU. Winning teams planned out their strategy before competing so they knew exactly what they needed to collect and score in each round, and could optimize their playing time by building up inventory. These teams also had simple manipulators that allowed them to effortlessly switch between tasks during matches.
